Vanoise National Park

The Vanoise National Park is a paradise for skiers and hikers

In winter, this is a white paradise for skiers. In summer, hikers will find all they need to get away from it all. Welcome to the Vanoise National Park, at the heart of the Savoie mountains!

One of the most beautiful nature sites in the Savoie Alps

If you want to visit this unique natural area in the Savoie Alps, you need to head between the Maurienne and Tarentaise valleys, 10 km away from your holiday accommodation in Valfréjus, and close to the major ski resorts of Courchevel, Val-d'Isère and Les Menuires. The Vanoise National Park was created in 1963. It is the oldest of France's seven national parks. It covers 530 km2 of land with no construction, excepting a few old Alpine chalets and mountain refuges. The park runs alongside the French-Italian border. It is home to several natural treasures, including the biggest icecap in Europe and the Grande Casse, the highest peak in Savoie, at an altitude of 3,855 metres.

Hiking and trekking in Vanoise

In all seasons, the Vanoise National Park attracts large numbers of visitors, athletes and hikers who come to breathe the pure mountain air, enjoy walks at high altitude and see rare and protected fauna and flora. In summer, the mountains have over 400 km of signposted paths following the GR5 and GR55 trails. For a day out or for a trip lasting several days, you can explore the beautiful landscapes of Savoie along a wide range of trails: the Grande Casse and the glaciers of the Vanoise region, the Lac des Vaches in Pralognan, the shores near the Plan d'Amont dam, the cave paintings at the foot of the Grand Roc Noir or the Carro refuge, the highest refuge in Savoie. A magnificent spot to recharge your batteries and give yourself some great memories of your holiday in the mountains!

Open-air activities and sports

In winter and summer, the villages and resorts in the valleys have a whole host of fun activities and sports on offer. In fine weather, you can enjoy ice climbing, mountain climbing and rock climbing, as well as canyoning, via ferrata, via cordata and paragliding. In winter, you can enjoy off-piste skiing, cross-country skiing, heli-skiing, ice climbing, snow shoeing and Nordic hiking. In summer, the Vanoise National Park hosts a wide range of cultural events and activities. Accompanied by park rangers/guides, you can get to see Alpine ibex, marmots and chamois with a telescope and binoculars, set off for an encounter with the mountainside's plants and try your hand at local crafts and traditional skills. And to take your mountainside experience a little bit further, spend the night in a refuge after a hearty Savoyard meal!
