Saint Jean d'Arves in "SUMMER" mode
The Arves valley is also a privileged destination to combine adventure, sport and experience in the heart of nature as soon as the sun comes out. In the summer, the Savoyard resort offers a multitude of outdoor activities for experienced hikers or leisurely walkers, climbing, canyoning or cycling enthusiasts. All this in a majestic, authentic and wild setting.
Hiking enthusiasts will be able to follow the 650 km of marked routes through the valleys of Arvan and Villards, between spruce forests and green mountain pastures. Mountain bikers will also be delighted by the trails of the Aiguilles d'Arves region. Want to get even higher? Let yourself be tempted by a paragliding flight with a state-certified instructor. Seen from the sky, the Maurienne valley is even more beautiful.
In addition to its sublime landscapes, Saint-Jean-d'Arves is full of history and traditions. The village has around thirty hamlets and as many picturesque places to discover: the Entraigues sundial, the Donkey Farm, the Arves honey factory, the Sainte-Brigide chapel and the Museum of the Past Life of Saint-Sorlin-d'Arves.
The Aiguilles d'Arves massif, emblem of the Maurienne
Symbol of the Maurienne, the Aiguilles d'Arves massif is home to three emblematic peaks culminating at an altitude of over 3,500 metres. Dominating the Arvan valley, the three imposing twin sisters are visible from several points in the valley. These three rocky spires were first climbed in 1878 by the Englishman Coolidge, who described them as "the most beautiful trilogy in the Alps". There is the Aiguille Méridionale, the Aiguille Centrale and the Aiguille Septentrionale, also called the "Tête de Chat".
From Chalmieu, a hamlet of Albiez Montrond at the foot of the Aiguille, an interpretation trail winds through the heart of the mountain pastures. This pretty hike in the Maurienne allows you to get close to the three sisters of the Arves, to meet the shepherds and their herds coming down from the mountain pastures and the mountaineers leaving for the summits.
