Mont Ventoux, the mountain of the Alps nicknamed the Giant of Provence

About 35 kms by car from your holiday home Les Embruns in Montbrun Les Bains, the Mont Ventoux also called "le Mont Chauve" is one of the biggest tourist sites in the region and attracts thousands of visitors every year. It is distinguished by its tooth-like shape and its grey colour. Located a few kilometres south of the Drôme in the Vaucluse department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, it rises to 1,912 metres. On the border between the Baronnies massif and the Dentelles de Montmirail massif, it is about 25 kilometres north-west of Carpentras in the Drôme and 80 kilometres south-west of Grenoble in Isère. Due to its privileged location, it offers a panoramic view of the surrounding valleys and the Alps.

A legend of the Tour de France

Mont Ventoux is also a place of legend. Considered as one of the most famous climbs and major cycling stages of the Tour de France. This mythical place, crossed for the first time in 1951 by Lucien Lazaridès, has been the scene of many victories, exploits, failures and dramas through several riders such as Kubler, Malléjac, Bergaud, Bobet, Merckx, Van den Boosche, Simpson...
The endless climb is reputed to be one of the most difficult on the circuit and is considered one of the most feared challenges for riders.

A natural and sporting destination for a successful holiday

Mont Ventoux is considered one of the largest nature reserves in France.
In summer, the mountain slopes are covered with lavender fields and vineyards, making it a popular destination for tourists.
If you go hiking, mountain biking or horseback riding through the forest, you will discover a variety of flora and fauna. There are rare species of birds, lizards, bats and Mediterranean plants.

For sports, Mont Ventoux is the ideal place for outdoor activities such as cycling, paragliding, climbing, mountaineering and skiing in winter. For hikers, the Gorges de la Nesque at the foot of the Ventoux and the Col des Tempêtes are among the recommended routes.

In conclusion, Mont Ventoux is a magical and unique place that attracts thousands of tourists and sportsmen every year. Whether you are a cycling enthusiast, a sportsman or just a visitor, Mont Ventoux is the perfect place to discover the beauty of Provence. Its spectacular scenery makes it a must-see place, only 45 minutes by car from your accommodation in our Montbrun-les-Bains residence.
