Tourism in Savoie

Savoie: a magical destination, winter and summer

With some of the most prestigious skiing areas in Europe, Savoie is an ideal spot for lovers of the mountains, nature and winter sports. But Savoie is much more besides. It's also a wide range of atmospheres, activities and inspiring ideas for families in search of relaxation and a change of scene, high-energy visitors out for adventure or food lovers looking for good things to eat.

All the fun of winter sports in the Savoie Alps

Right at the heart of the Alps, Savoie is the French department with the most ski resorts. With famous resorts such as Val-d'Isère, Tignes, Les Arcs and La Plagne, Savoie is home to skiing areas that have long been famous well beyond the French borders. If you have booked your holiday in our holiday residence in les Bottières, Savoie, you will get to know a delightful family-friendly ski resort that has preserved all the charm of a mountain village. You'll love it! A little further on, at the edge of the Vanoise National Park, "Les 3 Vallées" is the world's biggest skiing area, with Méribel, Courchevel, Les Menuires and Val Thorens not far away. In the Haute Maurienne Vanoise region, just below Val Cenis, Aussois and Termignon have preserved all the charm of traditional mountain villages, like Bessans and Bonneval-sur-Arc, at the foot of the Col de l'Iseran. But there is more to the mountains than skiing in winter. In summer, there are plenty of things to do as well!

A perfect destination for summer sports holidays

The towns and resorts in Savoie are also popular with holidaymakers looking for high-altitude nature activities and relaxation. The region is filled with outstanding natural sites and beautiful landscapes, with majestic summits and wooded valleys, cirques surrounded by crystal-clear lakes and nature reserves with a thousand and one wonders. In summer, the Vanoise National Park is a real paradise for fans of sport and outdoor exercise. Hiking, climbing, via ferrata, tennis, horse-riding and canoeing will be part of your holiday in Savoie. And nature lovers are not left out. Savoie is famous for its outstanding fauna and flora. Here you can see ibex, chamois, marmots, eagles, bearded vultures and little owls. The plant life includes the yellow gentian, the lady's-slipper orchid and the legendary Edelweiss, illustrating the rich Alpine diversity.

A wellness and relaxation stay in Savoie

It's well known, the mountains are good for you! Nothing like a stay in Savoie to get back in shape. The spa town of Aix-les-Bains, on the shores of Lac du Bourget, epitomises wellness, attracting thousands of spa visitors each year. Right at the heart of Les 3 Vallées mountains, the spa town of Brides-les-Bains is also a favourite with regulars. In les Bottières, make the most of your stay at the Club Hotel to take it easy in our wellness area after a full day's skiing or hiking. On the programme: jacuzzi, sauna and beauty treatment room. Lastly, how can we talk about a holiday without mentioning good food ? Savoie cuisine is often reduced to the tartiflette, fondue and raclette, but it is much more varied than people think: charcuterie, sausages and other salted meat, mountain trout, blueberry tart, zabaglione and rissoles, and not forgetting wines and the famous Savoie liqueurs. A whole host of flavours!

Savoie, the perfect place for fans of art and history

Savoie can also boast a rich but little-known cultural and historic heritage, the fruit of a millennia-old history. Lovers of art and history will head for Chambéry to visit the Dukes of Savoie castle and the Fine Arts Museum. You can also explore the Baroque heritage of the Tarentaise and Maurienne valleys, parish churches and small mountain chapels, such as Saint John the Baptist Cathedral in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, the temple to Diana in Aix-les-Bains or Hautecombe Abbey in Saint-Pierre-de-Curtille. In the Chartreuse Regional Nature Park are the castles and fortresses built during the Franco-Savoyard War, as well as the Grande Chartreuse monastery founded by Saint Bruno in 1084.
