A land of mountains criss-crossed by the gorges of the Loire and Allier rivers, the Haute-Loire is home to numerous châteaux that attract thousands of visitors every year. Built on the banks of the Loire, you can visit some of the most remarkable from your Auvergne holiday home in Vorey.
The fortress of Saint-Vidal

Attend exceptional shows and re-enactments retracing the history of the Velay region. Wander around the castle, meeting knights, builders, crusaders and the damned. The French and Italian gardens and the water garden are also well worth a visit.
The Château de la Rochelambert
Next stop off at Château de la Rochelambert in Saint-Paulien, built right into the volcanic rock. Burnt down by the Huguenots in 1562, it was rebuilt in the Renaissance style. Explore the château with an enthusiastic guide, who will tell you all about the history of this residence and the objects it houses.
The fortress of Polignac
Just a few kilometres from Le Puy-en-Velay in the Haute-Loire, the fortress of Polignac is an incredible historic monument, built at the top of a volcanic chimney. You won't want to miss it! Once used to defend the north-west access to the town of Le Puy-en-Velay, the fortress is now an emblematic tourist site in the Auvergne region.
The Château de Lavoûte-Polignac
Round off your royal escapade with a stroll through the heart of the Château de Lavoûte-Polignac. 15 kilometres north of Le Puy-en-Velay, overlooking the Loire, this imposing castle will charm you with its location, but also with its history, which you can discover with the help of a guide.
