Only half an hour from the Domaine du Lambon, the Marais Poitevin is a large area covering approximately one hundred thousand hectares in the regions of Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Pays de la Loire.
It is impossible to discover the Deux-Sèvres without passing through this large natural park, called the "Green Venice" because of the countless canals that dot the area, which can be visited by boat. This is one of the most rewarding activities in the Poitevin marshes: a gentle discovery of Poitevin nature, to the rhythm of the paddles, all along the Sèvre Niortaise.
A breathtaking natural wealth
On the outskirts of Niort, and extending to the gates of La Rochelle, the Marais Poitevin is a regional nature park with an incredible ecological wealth. As such, it is an area best explored by bike or on foot, with numerous circuits offered in the communes of the Niort marshes. More unusual, donkey rides are also offered in Saint-Georges-de-Rex, located about forty minutes from the Domaine du Lambon.
While discovering this territory, you may have the chance to observe the fauna of the Poitevin marshes, whether on the surface of the water or in the sky: aquatic birds, amphibians, herons, otters or coypu. In spring, dragonflies, butterflies and other insects flutter along the canals.
