Beaches, swimming and water sports, the perfect holiday trio
Do you know why Vendée is nicknamed "the Coast of Light" ? Because it is one of the French regions with the highest rate of sunshine: 2,000 hours a year! So spending your holiday in Vendée always means sun, sea and the beach!
Near Les Sables d'Olonne, Vendée has almost 25 km of coastline, long sandy beaches and enchanting landscapes. A few miles from the legendary Vendée Globe port, you will see some of the top seaside resorts on the Coast of Light, epitomising all the charm of Vendée: Saint Jean de Monts, Saint Gilles Croix de Vie and Saint Hilaire de Riez. Nestled between the sea and the pine forest, each of them has its fair share of summer activities and water sports, including sailing, kitesurfing, stand up paddleboarding and windsurfing. Fans of water sports holidays will be spoilt for choice!
Your stay at our holiday residence in Vendée will also be the starting point for great days out on foot or by bike on the coast, especially along the Vélodyssée trail between Bouin and L'Aiguillon sur Mer. In southern Vendée, you can visit small coastal villages and beautiful seaside resorts, such as Saint-Vincent-sur-Jard, La Tranche-sur-Mer, Longeville-sur-Mer (a top surfing spot) or La Faute-sur-Mer, not far away from Baie de l'Aiguillon and Pointe d'Arcay.
Vendée also has two islands that you can visit during your stay at our holiday residence. Enjoy a trip out to sea towards Île d'Yeu or cross the Passage du Gois to visit Noirmoutier, nicknamed the Mimosa Island. Both destinations have a wide range of landscapes, including beaches, forests, cliffs and marshes. Plenty to delight nature-loving hikers and fans of the seaside.
Vendée lakes
Vendée is also a land of lakes, all easily accessible from your holiday residence. In the Vendée Valley, you can enjoy a swim, water sports and fishing in a whole host of natural and artificial lakes. Attractions include lifeguarded sandy beaches, a wide range of water sports (sailing, canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, pedaloes), shaded areas for picnics, jetties to try out your fishing rod and fun outdoor activities centres for all the family.
Want to spend a refreshing day out at the lake during your holiday? Near Les Herbiers, close by your holiday residence, the Lac de la Tricherie in Mesnard-la-Barotière has both a very nice beach and a treetop adventure course. In Pouzauges, the Lac de L'Espérance is another popular spot for a swim with locals and visitors.
In the Pays de Chantonnay, there are three lakes with facilities to welcome visitors and over 270 hectares of water. Lac de la Vouraie in Saint-Hilaire-le-Vouhis and Bournezeau is the perfect lake for fans of water sports. Not far away, Lac de Touchegray in Chantonnay and Lac de Rochereau in Sigournais are always a big hit with families, thanks to a wide range of water sports, an outdoor activities centre and a children's play area.
In Chavagnes-en-Paillers, Lac de la Bultière invites visitors to a range of activities, including rowing, canoeing, kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, slack-line and archery. Lastly, Lac de la Chausselière in La Guyonnière (Montaigu-Vendée) is in a great setting to have fun in the water. So now everyone will want to leave grey city life behind and come and charge their batteries in Vendée!
